Since you have three of these PC's, are all of them displaying this behaviour? And you cannot get into the BIOS on all three? That's right, all 3 cannot take any more than 4gb and all three don't go into BIOS no matter what F key I hit, if I hit an F key none of them will start but the fan will keep running.
I suspect that not all three are faulty and possibly none of them. If I do this nothing happens, the fan keeps running but the computers don't start, the screen doesn't power up and none of the normal choices appear. Since there are three to try this on, I suggest trying it on one that has the original memory only and not one of the ones that has had the memory altered. What I usually advise is to start tapping the Esc key and then try a power up from a cold start, while still tapping Esc.
It is unlikely that all three are defective unless these PC's came from a vendor that buys off-lease surplus and they were not checked to be working. This doesn't work, it's the same with all three, if I try this nothing happens and the fan keeps running. I have to wonder just what is really going on with all three acting this way.

Both slots work with the old RAM whether it's 1 of them or both. Rudimental Expert Member. Joined Jan 6, Messages 1, It could be the density of the chips on those RAM sticks.
Old motherboard-based memory controllers like on the socket motherboards could be incompatible with the denser modern DDR3 memory chips on those sticks. Remove the battery on the motherboard for 10 minutes, then put it back. And you said it happens now with the old ram as well: So which is it? I swaped the 4b for a one and the same problem occurs. My old ram sticks work fine. Check if your RAM module is on here.
If it isn't, swap it out for one that is. Joined Jan 22, Messages 89, Swa Honorary Master. Joined May 4, Messages 30, You're not being clear. Is the new RAM one stick or two? How many slots does your motherboard have? A common problem is people upgrading a dual channel setup with one ram stick which doesn't work or the motherboard simply ignores it.
It's also easy to mix up the wrong slots. Double sticks have to be installed on the same channel in two serial slots or in two channels on the same serial path. If the configuration isn't the problem it's likely though rare your motherboard simply doesn't support the RAM modules used. Mighty Senior Member. Joined Apr 18, Messages Swa said:. Also, how many slots do you have? I know this was an issue with the older boards mainly though, but sometimes the RAM will only work in the first slot out of 4 usually marked 0 on the board the newer ones tend to be more flexible and you can just about dump it in any slot and mostly only have 2 slots.
The boards with the older config usually had two white slots and two blue slots so you should know that way. It is not uncommon to run into these types of issues related to memory when attempting RAM upgrades.
I would suggest always replacing both sticks if applicable with the exact same type of RAM, and please make sure the RAM is of the specifications of your particular Mac, PC, etc. Hold the keys until your computer restarts. I have just faced this problem, too. I have also tested both RAMs and they both work separately.
Im having this exact same issue. I know the RAM is good because when I switch them individually they both work in one of the slots but not the other. Did you find a soultion? Michael DeViney.
